'Leap of Faith'

The Story of Two Dutch

Dreamers in Ibiza

There I am, sitting on a sun-drenched terrace of Paul and Saya's finca on Ibiza. Paul, with his bare torso and long loose hair, offers me a piece of melon. "Would you like some more water?" he asks, while I enjoy the view of grapevines and mandarin trees. Not bad for a birthday invitation, I think to myself. These two, Paul and Saya, left everything in Venlo for this paradise life. Their story began 22 years ago during carnival in Limburg. Saya chuckles when she thinks back: "I was 15 and it really was love at first sight. On the third date I was like 'is it going to work out, mister?'" Paul, the quiet half of the couple, adds: "I'm actually a very quiet boy and quite thoughtful. As a result, I live my life a bit slower." You notice that when you hear how they ended up here. Saya confronted him one day: "I'm going to Ibiza, I'm going to live there. You can come with me or you can't, but I have to go." "Then I said: 'Go ahead, I'll see'," laughs Paul. But eventually he jumped too. His stable job as an engineer traded in for a life full of adventure. "I work in tourism here, which I really like. Kayak tours, hiking excursions, mountain biking - I can suddenly turn my passion into my job."

' What if You Fly'

Saya has since expanded her coaching work. "I now reach a larger audience online," she says enthusiastically. But it is especially her retreats on Ibiza that make her eyes shine. "We organize both private retreats and for groups in beautiful country houses and villas," she explains. "It is about deep inner healing work, often with family constellations." When I ask further, Saya says passionately: "In these retreats I really help people to become who they are. We work on letting go of old patterns, healing traumas and finding your life mission." She pauses for a moment, looking at the setting sun. "I believe that we are on earth to live and enjoy. These retreats are a way to help people do that."

'Saul Experience: Where Passion and Profession Meet'

Paul adds: "And I bring the physical element. We combine Saya's inner work with outdoor activities. It's amazing how much people discover about themselves during a mountain bike tour or a kayak expedition." Together they run 'Saul Experience', a name blended from their own names and a perfect mix of their talents. "It's more than work," says Saya. "We feel like we have a mission to inspire others to follow their hearts, just like we did." Of course, it's not always easy. "The first winter we sometimes wondered if we would make it," Paul admits. But the spark in their eyes betrays that they do not regret their choice. When the sun sets and we chat a bit more, I feel inspired. Paul's down-to-earth words stick: "If Paul van Dijck from Arcen can do this, then I should be able to do it too." And Saya's enthusiastic life motto completes the picture: "There is more to life, then nine to five!" As I walk back later that evening, I realize: this story is not only perfect for my VoxBlog, it is also a big kick in the butt to pursue my own dreams.
